Stefan Rusek | Cancer Myths

Cancer Myths

June 27, 2005 @ 9:34 am

I was reading the news today, and came across a
study of cancer myths that people believe
. The second most common myth is
that there is already a cure for cancer, but it is being withheld to boost
profits. The logical part of me says this is an absurd idea, but the other part
of me says that given the evilness of big drug companies, I could imagine a big
company like Merck
doing something like holding back a cancer cure.

Stefan Rusek | Most useful applications.

Most useful applications.

June 16, 2005 @ 3:02 pm

I was thinking the other day about the applications that I
use on my computer the most often and realized that the app I consider the most
useful and powerful it not what most people would think would be my most used
application. Most people would guess it would be Visual Studio, and they would
be partially right. (Technically, I could use VS to create an even more
powerful application than the current #1, but it would take me years to do so
even with a large team of excellent programmers.) The winner is Microsoft
Excel. I use it all the time for all kinds of things. I keep track of my gas
mileage in Excel, I keep track of my time I work on projects on it, and I use
it for all kinds of other stuff as well. Here is my list of stuff I use the
most often or consider the most useful, off the top of my head.

1. Excel

2. Visual Studio .Net

3. Outlook

4. Lutz Roeder’s Reflector

5. MSN Messenger

6. Money

7. Calculator (yeah the one built into Windows!)

I don’t really consider Calc.exe to be the most useful
app around, but I use it quite a bit and if I only use it because it takes less
time to load than Excel.

Btw here is something cool I did in Excel a while back.

Miguel de Icaza of the Mono project has some real
interesting thoughts on open source licensing. http://tirania.org/blog/archive/2005/May-07.html
